Several years ago when my husband\'s father passed away his mom needed his birth certificate for some reason and went to the safe deposit box where it had been stored for years.

She had placed it in the box one day and never looked at it. She glanced at it before making copies for her current use and noticed that the mother who raised her husband and grandmother to her only child was not the same person listed on the birth certificate.

The mother listed on the birth certificate is Ethel M Usher. She was born April 13, 1884 and I was able to trace her ancestors back to England in the 1500\'s, if I have the correct EMU.

Her mother, in the 1910 US Federal Census for Baldwin, Maine where Ethel was born stated that she had 4 children in her lifetime and all 4 were living. So, Ethel didn\'t die in childbirth.

The father of her child was listed as Fremont \"Mont\" Bowie who had married Gertrude Ridlon the previous January in 1906. Lewis Herbert Bowie was born July 26, 1906 in Kezar Falls, Cumberland County, Maine. Mont and Trudy raised Lewis. Ethel disappeared off the face of the earth.

I found many Ethel M Ushers and researched them extensively but came to dead ends every time. My most recent research lead me to Ethel M Douglass and after much data had been collected I discovered she and her husband had been married too many years for her to have been \"my\" subject, Ethel M Usher.

I searched the Social Security Death Index for any Ethel M\'s that were born April 13, 1884 and found a few that I researched but came up empty handed.

My next move will be to order the film from the Family History Library where I found her birth records to make sure I didn\'t copy the birth date wrong.

Any help will be appreciated.
